0International Tango Festival in Catania
Preparations are underway in Catania, Sicily, for the eleventh edition of the International Tango Festival, which this year promises even “more Tango, more Sun, more Sea”. From the historical centre of Catania to the beachside, you will experience the most popular Milongas of Catania for a week of pure Tango.
A whole program dedicated to Tango and holidays, a perfect match to spend a week surrounded by the warmth of Sicily. Summer Milongas on the shore of Lido Azzurro, shows in the frames of the baroque city of Catania, insights on the interpretation of Tango: these are the ingredients that will make the Tango Festival a unique summer event in Sicily.
Last year’s edition has hosted participants from more than 30 Italian cities and 10 different foreign countries – including the U.S., Canada, Chile, Japan, Russia, France and Germany.
This year, some of the masters of the past year have been confirmed, as Joe Corbata with Lucila Cionci, Adrian Veredice with Alejandra Hobert, Carina Morrudo with Angelo Grasso, in addition to the new entry of prestigious names such as Pablo Rodriguez with Noelia Hurtado and Gustavo Rosas with Gisela Natoli.
The two novelties for the 2011 edition will be the presentation of a dancing couple who has made the “History of the Festival” – Walter Cardozo and Margarita Klurfan are listed this year, who have uninterruptedly attended the Festival since 2001 – and the awarding of the first “CTF Lifetime Achievement Award” which this year will be assigned to the prestigious dancers Luis Castro and Claudia Mendoza.
Some of the most awaited and special sections include the show “El tango: historia de un amòr” and the photographic exhibition “Stolen Shots: Tango Emotions” , along with more than 70 hours throughout the week of Tango internships and start-up courses taught by high-status tango maestros.
After the daily collection of passes and registrations at the AGA Hotel in Catania, the program of the international week of Tango will be spread over multiple locations around the city, including the Minoriti Cloister in Via Etnea and the Lido Azzurro area, with performances and presentations and plenty of entertainment. The event will also include the celebration of the Assumption on August 14th, with the No Limits night of August starting at 22:00 at the Minoriti Cloister and a Gran Baile de gala, the following evening.
