Ski holidays on a budget: choose Italy

Skiing in Italy is great, especially for beginners and intermediates. And what is more, this country has two more interesting attractions to offer, that is, traditional cuisine and its fine wines. The perfect ingredients for your perfect winter holidays. Skiing holidays in Italy are usually cheaper than in the more famed Alpine resorts in Austria, France and Switzerland. However, resorts like Cervinia, Sestriere, Val Di Fassa and Champoluc, and many others, all offer equally exciting runs for excellent skiing and, with the added benefit of having fewer lift queues!

Although most Italian resorts are more suited to beginners and intermediates, there are still some more challenging areas for those who enjoy the thrill of extreme sports, and surely for a lot less than you’d pay at the big name European resorts.

In general, the whole of the Dolomiti SuperSki region and the Milky Way, boast hundreds of kilometres of lift-linked slopes. Courmayeur, on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, is a first good example. When it comes to top Italy ski resorts Courmayeur is right on the top of the list. This appealing town with cobbled streets and rock-built houses with heavy slate roofs, boasts excellent facilities for skiers and charming après-ski kicks-in to offer, which give a superb taste of Italy to your evenings.

Moreover, Sestriere dates back to the 1930s and although being the first custom built Italian ski resort, still retains many of its original features. At an altitude of 2,035 meters, it is part of the Milky Way ski area on the border with France. This area is great for young families and those seeking super skiing on a budget.

And also Cervinia, based on the Italian side of the Matterhorn, is another good deal. 200 km of runs, plenti of cheap accommodation and no shortage of huts and chalets for dining or simply hang out, Cervinia is a haven especially for intermediate skiers. However, advanced skiers can choose to take the lift over to Zermatt, on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn, except getting back “before midnight” to sleep in a cheap Cervinia accommodation!

And speaking of cheap ski accommodation in Italy, all these resorts offer excellent solutions, ranging from exclusive Luxury hotels to more basic, standard, affordable accommodation. However, it’s not only about budget holidays in Italy. We are talking about a truly relaxing experience, where you can couple fun with wellness, sunbathing and especially good wines and food, all excellent value for money or, in some cases, totally free!
