0Carnival of Nice: the King of the Mediterranean and the Battle of Flowers.
From February 18 to March 8, on the Cote d’Azur in Nice is held the grand Carnival, which this year will be inspired by the King of the Mediterranean. This thread is intended to focus on the history of the Earth in an ecological perspective, with all the mistakes of the human kind and the gradual awareness on the need for a lifestyle renewal.
Many designers are ready to challenge on this complex issue with their imagination and creativity, for the creation of large allegorical floats that will parade in the two-week holiday, between the Promenade des Anglais and Place Massena. In the days of the Carnival of Nice, the seafront becomes a meeting and dispute place of fantastic masks and automated wagons with characters related to the theme of the Mediterranean. These are major attractions, up to 20 meters high, made by carnavaliers companies and international artists specializing in Carnival.
During the Nice Carnival, takes place also the famous Battle of Flowers. This year it will be on Wednesday, March 2, starting at 2.30pm: on the occasion, a dozen floats decorated with local flowers will proceed along the seafront, while stunning ‘nymphs’ covered with flowered clothes will throw from 80 000 to 100 000 flowers over people gathered on the course.
One of the main places where the Nice Carnival is celebrated, is Place Masséna, the centre of artistic and cultural entertainment, of live music concerts and where a giant screen is set up to allows citizens to follow the events of Carnival. During the 15 days of the Carnival of Nice, in town flock artists and musicians from all continents and Samba and Caribbean rhythms resounds everywhere.
The program of the Carnival of Nice offers some great moments: Tuesday, March 1, from 2.30pm – the parade, Wednesday, March 2 – Battle of Flowers, Saturday, March 5 – again the Battle of Flowers and from 9.00 pm the show on lit up Promenade, Sunday, March 6 – another great parade and on Tuesday, March 8 – uninterrupted celebration in the evening for the end of Carnival with the bonfire for the incineration of the King and a huge fireworks show.
Hotels in Nice are fully booked for the occasion. Therefore, to stay in Nice during the Carnival, it is essential to book a bit in advance.
