0The Hague – Holland Dance Festival
Holland Dance is the producer, coproducer and initiator of several dance projects for a wide-ranging audience all year round. All of these activities find their climax in the Holland Dance Festival. This biennial event will be held from January 26 to February 26, 2012 in The Hague.
The promotion of dance, with special attention for amateurs and education, is a guiding principal in all of Holland Dance’s activities. Samuel Wuersten – an internationally known dancer, choreographer and teacher, and especially Artistic Director of the Festival since 1994 – knows this well, this is also why his cooperation with the Lucent Dance Theatre, since 2009, has been so successful, resulting in a broader dance programme, to fill the gap between dance festivals in Holland.
The Holland Dance Festival is the largest international dance festival in Holland. More than 70 outstanding performances by over 30 dance companies, 100 interactive workshops and a spectacular dance parade with over 1,200 amateur dancers, will make the city “shake” in every way for close to a month.
For four weeks, the Holland Dance Festival will host dance companies and artists from all over the world: from works by famous choreographers such as Jiri Kylian or Bill T. Jones, to great dance icons such as Sylvie Guillem, but also undiscovered gems, new productions and young talents.
Noteworthy are the remarkable Holland Dance Specials: workshops in which choreographers and dancers from the festival present their specific dance technique or method of working, giving visitors a great opportunity to interact and enjoy dance at every level.
The Holland Dance Festival offers a varied line-up to a wide audience, promoting high-quality dance as a source of inspiration. For Holland Dance Festival, this is an appropriate image, as they actually see dance as the heartbeat of life. Dance begins with inspiration, and dance provides inspiration. Therefore, the festival programme is entitled ‘Source of Inspiration’.
Performances will take place at the Lucent Danstheater, Korzo Theater, Theater aan het Spui and in the Atrium of The Hague City Hall. For more information visit the website of the Holland Dance Festival.
