0Sicily: New Year’s in Agriturismo
2012 approaches, it is time to think about how to organize a special New Year’s Eve. A beautiful destination could be that little paradise in the bottom of Italy, Sicily.
And why not, down in Sicily choose the lowest point, where the sun shines 360 days a year and where man and nature live together in harmony, and skyscrapers and smog, and the cold, leave space to an uncontaminated nature.
An unusual option, although already proven with satisfaction by many, is to spend your New Year’s holidays at an Agriturismo, guest-farmhouses where the spirit of each of the owners – driven by a passion for the promotion of the territory – will make you feel welcome even if you are thousands of miles away from home.
Fresh air, relax, familiarity: this is what a Sicilian Agriturismo offers to celebrate New Year’s 2012 at its best. Here are some ideas. We have chosen the Val di Noto area, a pearl of south-eastern Sicily, an area located between the province of Ragusa, Syracuse and part of the provinces of Catania and Caltanissetta.
UNESCO World Heritage “area” since 2002, mainly for its treasures of the late Baroque, this is also an area where excellent wine, oil and cheese originate, where you can find delicious meat and fish bred and cooked with traditional systems, where it is not uncommon to be moved before a sunset over the hills or on the seashore…
The best solution is surely not limited to enjoying “only” the delicacies offered by the facility’s restaurant on New Year’s Eve, but rather to treat yourself to a few days immersed in nature, breathing fresh air and learning to recognize the good and simple things that nature has to offer, all at very reasonable prices.
Here are a few suggestions.
Tenuta Roccadia, for example, is a farmhouse set in 14 hectares of nature, for a deep countryside experience in the midst of farm animals. It is located near Syracuse, and offers packages for New Year’s including New Year’s Eve dinner and entertainment with a 10% discount for foreigners!
Between Syracuse and Catania, instead, lies the Agriturismo Badiula, which along with fine cuisine prepared with fresh and genuine products, meant to let you appreciate and learn about the history and the culinary tradition of this territory, will also offer you the pleasure of relaxing at the spa.
A few steps from the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Villaggio Agrituristico Campanio is perfect for those who love sports and want to add to the celebration of the New Year also enjoyable moments in which to play golf, tennis, fishing and more.
Archaeology, art and nature, in an itinerary full of emotions and discoveries in South-Eastern Sicily. The beautiful Syracuse, with the famous Greek Theater and the alleys and markets of the island of Ortigia. Then the masterpieces of the Baroque town of Noto and Ragusa Ibla, and much, much more. The meeting with the rural culture and the rich and varied local cuisine enrich and complete the journey towards the new year. Welcome to the land of Sun.
