Ski holidays in Spain? Why not?

Gone is the misconception that Spain is solely a summer destination, albeit it remains very caliente all year round. Besides tapas, wonderful beaches, outstanding monuments and amazing people, Spain also offers thrilling winters, during which the best thing is to enjoy some healing mountain air and great fun on skis.

Yes, you read that right! The tide has definitely turned and Spain is currently earning its status as one of the best value ski destinations in Europe, both in terms of prices and fun.

If you still haven’t visited Spain in winter, this could be a good time to take the opportunity and discover what this Country has to offer, also as a first class ski destination. Don’t forget that that in 1997 the World Cup in Slalom was held in Granada!

Spanish ski resorts – especially suitable for beginners and intermediates – offer well equipped pistes with excellent facilities, along with ski schools up to the task, classy accommodation options and, of course, great nightlife.

You can choose between the Northern, trendy areas of the Spanish Pyrenees, with Baqueira and Formigal as top resorts, boasting extensive, challenging ski areas. Baqueira is Spain’s largest and most fashionable resort, immensely popular among Spanish skiers, while Formigal, nestled in the Aragon region, has excellent facilities for beginners and experts alike, over 137km of marked pistes.

Otherwise, go down for the south and enjoy the sun-drenched slopes of the Sierra Nevada, with a vertical drop of 1,300 meters serviced by a total of 19 lifts, along with a well kept half pipe for snowboarders and some opportunity for freeriding.

You will be spoilt for choice with good quality accommodation options: from cost effective, yet functional ski in-ski out bases to sumptuous Spa hotels, something to suit all tastes. Moreover, no matter where you stay, the cuisine is excellent and allows you at any occasion to savor Spains’ mouthwatering specialties. And finally, a huge selection of lively bars and clubs, where you can party long into the small hours, awaits you as always.

Whichever your choice, skiing in Spain will be unusual and appealing, but most of all, you will find the same friendly, easy-going atmosphere that makes Spain one of the best holiday destinations in the world.
