0Beach holidays in Lagos, Algarve
Portugal has many competing attractions and the Algarve is one of the most beautiful regions of the country, with endless beaches and lovely towns, including Lagos, a municipality at the mouth of Bensafrim River and along the Atlantic Ocean, in the Barlavento region, southern Portugal. A place where April already rhymes with… Summer!
Lagos is a unique little jewel in the Algarve. It offers a balance of the charm and history of the Portuguese culture coupled with excellent comforts and facilities to please any sort of tourist. This seaside town has a special something that you feel when you spend time here, especially thanks to its fascinating history with gorgeous sandy beaches. Like all Algarve resorts, the obvious Lagos attractions for visitors are plenty of sun, sea and sand.
The main beach is the impressive Meia Praia, a peaceful 4km beach perfect for families, due to the many facilities and services offered.
Lagos boasts the presence of fantastic sandy coves, all within easy access from the main town; popular Praia de Dona is outstandingly beautiful but for something quieter try Praia do Pinhao, Praia do Camilo and Ponta da Piedade.
Holidays to Lagos also offer excellent water sports opportunities including windsurfing, diving and sailing, mainly available in the areas of Meia Praia and Porto de Mos. Other activities include dolphin-watching boat trips, fishing or even a tour of the rocky grottoes around the area. Lagos is also popular with golfers, as is the rest of the Algarve, with over 30 top class golf courses in the region.
Finally, holidays in Lagos also promise great shopping – with sophisticated boutiques and good value local produce such as jewels, lace, copperware, leather goods and wine – and unforgettable night-outs – with an offer of restaurants and bars as well as some nightclubs and friendly wine bars tucked into the winding streets; the large marina or Praca Gil Eanes square are where many bars are located and is a good place to begin your night.
April is yet a good time to enjoy an early beach holiday in Lagos. The weather in the Algarve is warm year-round, enjoying approximately 300 days of sunshine, with fairly steady temperatures. Picturesque sandy coves and rocky grottoes, alongside golden expanses of sands can only be less crowded but equally charming in this period for any visitor.
And, of course, don’t forget all the rest once there!
