Ski holidays in St. Moritz, the metropolis of the Alps
Elegant and exclusive town located in the Upper Engadin, Switzerland, at an altitude of 1,856 meters and at the center of the magnificent landscape of the Engadine lakes, St. Moritz is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world.
King Carl Gustaf of Sweden is just one of the many regulars VIP guests in this town, known as the metropolis of the Alps. St. Moritz hosts numerous hotels and luxury shops, as well as several nursing homes, nestled in this mountain scenery between lakes and mountains.
St. Moritz is bathed in sunshine for 322 days a year on average. During the summer, this beautiful resort is a perfect blend of nature, culture and sport, offering excursions to discover the flora and fauna in the area, the opportunity to practice sports ranging from paragliding to horse riding, and a variety of cultural events of all kinds.
However, it is in winter that St. Moritz gives its best. St. Moritz is the cradle of winter tourism. In addition to the classic downhill skiing (with 55 lifts and 350 km of slopes), snowboarding and cross country skiing (with 180 km of slopes), the resort offers many other attractions, such as the Cresta Run, the Olympia Bob Run – the world’s first and only natural bobsleigh course, racing horses and dogs on the frozen lake, polo, cricket, and curling tournaments as well as a series of festivals devoted to food and music.
Winter hikers will enjoy 150 km of paths, while the cross-country skiers visiting the Engadin can indulge on a network of tracks 180 km long.
There are many tourist attractions in St. Moritz in addition to skiing and nature. The leaning tower – the remains of the Church of St. Maurice, dating from the sixteenth century, or the Segantini Museum are excellent alternatives to combine luxury and jet set. Equally noteworthy are the surroundings of St. Moritz, such as the Engadin Valley with Lake Sils, Lake Silvaplana, Lake Champfèr and Lake St. Moritz. Don’t miss a ride on the Bernina Express, a panoramic train riding along the most scenic railway in Europe, towards the Puschlav valley.
