Solo travel is the trend for 2017 and perhaps will continue going forward.<\/p>\n<h3>Who are the Solo Travellers?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8230\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/solo-travel-abroad.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/solo-travel-abroad.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/solo-travel-abroad-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A usual assumption is that solo travellers are single, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/sdut-travel-deals-solo-trips-trending-2016mar05-story.html\">studies show<\/a> that solo travellers are just as likely, if not more likely to be married or in a committed relationship<\/li>\n<li>Solo travellers rage in age from late 20\u2019s to over 50! Infact the over 50 segment is seeing some of the biggest surge in demand. Average age of a solo traveller as per a research is 54 year, and expected to rise in future.<\/li>\n<li>Women are leading the solo travellers segment, a TripAdvisor survey showed that 74% women had either already travelled alone or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natgeotraveller.co.uk\/smart-travel\/features\/solo-travel-going-alone\/\">planned to do so in 2015<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These statistics paint the picture of an average solo traveller \u2013 She is 50+years old, married\/divorced\/widowed.<\/p>\n<p>But why is she travelling solo? What\u2019s the driving force for solo travellers? Traditionally travelling was considered a group thing. <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/digital-nomads-derek-cultural-enthusiast-perpetual-wanderer\/\">Youngsters went backpacking<\/a> with friends, families went on vacations. Travels were considered to be leisure time to be spent with family, bonding with them. So what\u2019s the driving force behind solo travel?<\/p>\n<h3>Driving Force<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8235\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/woman-solo-travel.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/woman-solo-travel.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/woman-solo-travel-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Me Time<\/strong> \u2013 For older solo travellers it\u2019s the idea of getting some alone \u2018me\u2019 time, away from their families which motivates many of them. Women especially having had spent entire lives taking care of kids, family, and spouses, are increasingly liking the idea of travelling solo to get away from the daily grind and spend some time pampering themselves alone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pursuing own interest<\/strong> \u2013 Being married or in a committed relationship meant adjusting with each other\u2019s likes and interests. So if one partner liked travelling, but other didn\u2019t, a compromise would be drawn at 1 vacation per year. Not today, as times have changed, people are becoming more comfortable in pursuing their own interest individually within a relationship. So if one partner likes travelling but other doesn\u2019t, then the solution is solo travel. Everybody is happy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have time will travel <\/strong>\u2013 This is another driving force that has emerged as lifestyles have changed. With more and more relationships where both partners are working, arranging for both to have leave at same time for a leisure trip is tricky at best. Earlier this used to mean no getaways for either partner. But now the trend is changing. If one partner has leave and wishes to travel and the other partner cannot get leave, then solo travel it is. Similarly in case of non-working partners, if their working partners are unable to travel due to job constraints, the non-working partners are opting for solo travel. It\u2019s about doing what you want and not waiting for other partner to join in always.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Independence and Confidence<\/strong> \u2013 For a lot of solo women travellers, it\u2019s about gaining confidence in their ability to handle things and developing their independence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Self-Development &amp; Learning<\/strong> \u2013 This is a leading driving force amongst singles. With more innovative holiday options coming up, like meditation getaways, yoga, Pilate\u2019s weekends, cookery trips, creative writing expedition etc., singles are more inclined than ever to travel for self-growth. But as solo travellers are increasing in numbers, Cruise companies are not only adding more cabins dedicated to solo travelers, some are also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themajesticline.co.uk\/cruises\/single-availability\/\">doing away with single supplements<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Cab companies have started special services to bring down the travel cost for solo travellers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/ride\/uberpool\/\">UberPOOL<\/a>, which matches you with a rider going to a similar destination, thus bringing down your travel cost.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cntraveler.com\/story\/solo-female-adventure-travel-is-on-the-rise\">Adventure travel companies<\/a> are designing special packages for solo female traveller, where female guide will train them to rock climb, or mountain bike.
