From year round sunshine, to golden beaches, clear blue seas, friendly locals (who speak English) and cheap accommodation, why wouldn\u2019t it be?<\/p>\n<p>It is easier than ever both to get to Spain and to travel around the country, with more flights and better train connections. Now the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/20131215-paris-barcelona-high-speed-rail-link-opens-transport-train\"> high-speed train link between Paris and Barcelona<\/a> is in full operation, you can hop on a train in the morning departing from London and arrive in the Catalan capital, just in time for dinner. It sounds extremely civilised to me. What puts many off the short flight time and guaranteed weather is the tourist-filled city, but there are a few hidden gems still left in Spain!<\/p>\n<h3>The question is, where?<\/h3>\n<p>Between the northern regions and Madrid, <strong>Castilla Le\u00f3n has much to offer<\/strong> to foodies and wine lovers, and if you decide to fly straight into the capital and hire a car, you could do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paradores-spain.com\/\">a tour staying in paradors<\/a>, many of which are <strong>converted monasteries or castles<\/strong> \u2013 how amazing! With authentic markets for the local\u2019s food and drink, you\u2019ll fit right in to normal life. You could also drive southwest from Madrid to Extremadura and if you travel in late spring you\u2019ll witness the cherry trees in blossom in the pretty Jerte and Ambroz valleys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8065\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/paradores.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/paradores.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/paradores-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or <strong>why not try Girona<\/strong>, a city in the northeast of Catalonia in Spain, at the confluence of the rivers Ter, Galligants, Onyar, and G\u00fcelland has an official population of around 100,000, it\u2019s still relatively small for Spain! It is located 100km northeast of Barcelona, making it a perfect untouched spot. From monastery\u2019s, narrow streets, steep stairs, Jewish history, cathedrals, lakes and rivers \u2013 there really is an abundance of things to see and do \u2013 without feeling too touristy.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us have visited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marmaglia.it\/vacanze-in-barca-a-vela\/canarie-lanzarote-fuerteventura\">the Canary Islands<\/a> in our lifetime, mainly for their streamline beaches, however, it is becoming ever more <strong>popular for sports and outdoor experiences<\/strong> rather than just beach holidays \u2013 although most people combine relaxing in resorts with the more energetic pursuits on offer, which include mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, sailing and all kinds of weird and wonderful water sports.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8063\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/lanzarote.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/lanzarote.jpg 620w, https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/lanzarote-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Into the hip music scene? It is the perfect city for a shopping break and has some exceptional restaurants and sandy white beaches.
