A Piece of History<\/h3>\n

The Berlin Wall is one of the most recognized pieces of German history. The wall stood between East and\u00a0West Germany, dividing the country and its people during the cold war. The Bradenburg Gate was one of\u00a0the few ways for German citizens to pass between the two sides of the country, and today it stands as a\u00a0reminder of the unity that was rediscovered when the wall was torn down.\u00a0It is often considered the national symbol for the country of Germany. Originally constructed in 1791, the\u00a0gate itself is a symbol of peace and victory.\u00a0If you are interested in seeing a piece of history, consider visiting Berlin\u2019s Brandenburg Gate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Walk in the Woods<\/h3>\n

You can\u2019t plan a German vacation without spending at least one day in The Black Forest<\/strong>. In spite of its\u00a0name, the forest is filled with amazing trees, rolling green hills and some of the most delightful tours in the\u00a0country. It is home to wine, historic monasteries, the origin of the cuckoo clock and, of course, Black Forest\u00a0Cake!\u00a0Two tours in the area are highly recommended: The Wine Route<\/a> takes thirsty travelers on a tour of the wine\u00a0growing areas and local wineries while the German Clock Route<\/a> allows visitors to follow the history of the\u00a0German Cuckoo Clock.\u00a0Don\u2019t forget to find yourself a slice of authentic Black Forest Cake while you\u2019re visiting the area. You can\u00a0never go wrong with chocolate cake, cherries and whipped cream, especially when you follow it up with a\u00a0sweet shot of cherry schnapps!<\/p>\n

Every Disney Fan\u2019s Dream<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019ve ever dreamed of walking around a Disney princess\u2019 castle, then Germany is the perfect place for\u00a0you. Newschwanstein Castle<\/strong>, commissioned by King Ludwig II and completed in 1892, is one of the most\u00a0popular and well\u00adknown castles in the world.\u00a0Why? This stunning piece of architecture served as the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty\u2019s castle in the\u00a0Disney film of the same name.\u00a0The castle was opened to the public in 1886 after Ludwig II\u2019s death and has hosted millions of visitors over\u00a0the years. It should definitely be on the to\u00adsee list when you make your way to Germany!<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t Mind the Speed Limit<\/h3>\n

Germany is a great place to visit for people who just can\u2019t get enough of speed: The German Autobahn<\/a> is a\u00a07,500 \u00admile\u00adlong stretch of road that crosses most of the country. It\u2019s an engineering marvel, but that isn\u2019t\u00a0what attracts most of its visitors.\u00a0Most people come to experience the Autobahn because certain sections of this monstrous highway have no\u00a0speed limit.<\/strong>\u00a0Don\u2019t believe the myth: Many travel sites claim that the Autobahn has no speed limit whatsoever, but that\u2019s\u00a0not exactly true. While some areas will let you open the throttle and fly, most areas have a set speed limit.\u00a0These are almost always placed because of hazardous driving conditions or because the Autobahn passes\u00a0through urban areas.\u00a0If you want to put the pedal to the metal, make sure you do some research on Autobahn road etiquette and\u00a0find out what your requirements are for a vacation drive.<\/p>\n

Can\u2019t Forget the Beer<\/h3>\n

You can\u2019t plan a German vacation without trying at least a few local beers<\/strong>, and what better place to do that\u00a0than in the Hofbrauhaus in Munich<\/a>? While you can find other beer houses like this around the world, the\u00a0one in Munich is without doubt the oldest and most well\u00adknown of its kind.\u00a0The idea of the beer house was first imagined by Wilhelm V, the Duke of Bavaria. He didn\u2019t import beer in\u00a01589, when his household didn\u2019t like the Munich\u00adbrewed variety \u2014 he decided to build his own brewery!\u00a0Today, this historic treat can seat up to 1,300 unique and energetic individuals at a time. Just be careful if\u00a0you\u2019re not used to German beer: It\u2019s a lot stronger than other beers and can easily catch you off guard.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re planning your trip in October, make sure you swing by Oktoberfest<\/a>!\u00a0What originally began as a wedding celebration in 1810 has evolved over the years into one of the most\u00a0flamboyant, extravagant and delightfully over\u00adthe\u00adtop events in the world.\u00a0People come from all over the world to drink German beer, eat delicious German food and take part in an\u00a0amazing tradition that is often imitated but can never been truly duplicated.\u00a0If Oktoberfest is part of your plan, make sure you budget for it. Beer can get expensive when you\u2019re drinking\u00a0all day long<\/strong>! If you have the money and the constitution for it, Oktoberfest can be an amazing once in a\u00a0lifetime experience.<\/p>\n
