Days are slowly becoming longer, and the thrill of the upcoming summer makes our imagination run wide toward warm Mediterranean places, crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and long walks amid green hills and historic sites, perhaps caressed by a light breeze: is that Greece? Yep, Rhodes<\/strong> to be precise.<\/p>\n

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands<\/a><\/strong>, located in the eastern Aegean Sea, Greece.<\/p>\n

From beautiful beaches and lively resorts to charming towns and lots of archaeological sites, this is a perfect place to start thinking about summer<\/strong>! And a Rhodes round up of must see attractions is what you need to make the best of your holidays at this historic island.<\/p>\n

The tourist attractions of Rhodes<\/a> <\/strong>are quite varied. Many of the best tourist attractions are treasured within the charming villages and resorts, as Lindos, Lardos and Pefkos, which include everything from nightclubs and restaurants, to a golf club and a stunning Acropolis.<\/p>\n

Lindos<\/strong>, an ancient city dating as far back as 2,000 BC, has become the number two resort on the island, after the Old Town area of Rhodes Town. It boasts the presence of lovely whitewashed, labyrinthine streets lined with shops and cafes, the Church of Agios Ioannis \u2013 dating back to the 15th-century, and, as usual in many parts of Greece, a fascinating Acropolis perched atop a towering rock more and enjoying staggering views across the island.<\/p>\n

Speaking of summer, in these months it is advisable to climb the Acropolis early in the morning, due to the high temperatures occurring throughout the day.<\/p>\n

And speaking of views, as you climb the 1,215 meters to the top of Mount Attavyros, you will enjoy a trip to the island\u2019s highest point! You shouldn\u2019t miss the museum, which houses an array of Minoan relics from an ancient temple that once stood here.<\/p>\n

Back downhill again. In the western side of the island, near the Theologos village, lies Peta Loudhes, that is, The Valley of the Butterflies<\/strong>. This beautiful valley is overwhelmed with millions of butterflies of all colors and species, which in spring and autumn come to reproduce in a magic setting of flushing streams, pure waterfalls and sheltering trees. A walk through the valley, which climbs to a monastery at the top, is a must when you\u2019re in Rhodes.<\/p>\n

No Greek holiday would be complete without a day at sea. And if you\u2019re in Rhodes, you should head towards Pefkos, a top beach to spend a day swimming, sunbathing, exploring the rocky outlets, or simply doing nothing at all.<\/p>\n

Among the sport activities one can practice in Rhodes, it is worth mentioning Golf \u2013 the 18 holes Afandou Golf Course covers some 6,220 metres; and Scuba Diving \u2013 the crystal clear waters and a wealth of fascinating sea life attractions, make diving and snorkeling one of the most sought after activities on the Island.<\/p>\n

And finally, the centerpiece of the island itself: Rhodes Town<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s most stunning medieval towns, which mixes mosques, churches and ancient castles with modern facilities and rooftop cafes. Some examples? A very appealing Aquarium, near the waterfront, housed in a historical Art Deco style building, or the renowned Palace of Grand Master of Knights, in the old town, and of course, the Acropolis of Rhodes, dating back to the 2nd century B.C, sitting on a hill to the western part of Rhodes Town. Upwards again, and again some great views of the city.<\/p>\n
