Fine weather and the start of the summer festival season make June an attractive month to be in Amsterdam<\/a>. And, once again, June is going to be the month of culture in the Netherlands<\/a>, as it\u2019s time for Holland Festival<\/strong>, at its 105th edition this year. An event devoted to music, dance and theatre, a large cutting-edge festival for all ages. From 1 to 28 June, 2012.<\/p>\n

Holland Festival is an extraordinary, trend-setting festival annually held in Holland, it focuses on performing arts, and is gaining a growing international success. Since 1947, the city of Amsterdam proudly hosts this international music, dance and theatre festival<\/strong> every year. Little has changed today since then, and every year the organizers punctually manage to pack a great amount of truly interesting cultural events into a single month.<\/p>\n

Since 2005, the festival has been headed by artistic director Pierre Audi. Under his direction, it has maintained its influential role as a leading international platform for innovation in the performing arts. Its programming consistently emphasizes discipline crossovers and always includes works of the highest artistic standards.<\/p>\n

Some of the biggest figureheads on the international art scene \u2013 this is the festival that introduced Maria Callas to Holland, as well as so called \u201cdaring experiments\u201d \u2013promising national and international artists who do not get the chance to perform such a way anywhere else, are invited to participate in the Holland Festival. As a result, the event gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy quality classical and modern music concerts, dance and theatre shows, some of which are available in a variety of languages.<\/p>\n

Due to the amount of performances on offer, the festival team have designed a number of routes (sort of packages) to guide visitors into a customized Holland Festival program. Those who book a festival route, will receive a discount on their tickets and a program book for every performance. Here they are:<\/p>\n

HF Hardcore<\/strong>: represents the essence of the Holland Festival, and includes masterpieces such as C(H)OEURS by Alain Platel. The Belgian choreographer\/director examines in dance the \u2018dangerous beauty\u2019 of the masses, on music by Verdi and Wagner. Enjoy the show on June 1st (sold out), through 4th. 3x French Dance<\/strong>: 3 French choreographers, 3 individual dance idioms, for 3 amazing works: Enfant, by Boris Charmatz<\/a>; R\u00e9volution, by Olivier Dubois; La Cr\u00e9ation du Monde, by Faustin Linyekula. (price: \u20ac 72 to \u20ac 87.5)<\/p>\n

3X Unusual Suspects<\/strong>: focusing on new names, new forms, exceptional expressiveness. (price: \u20ac 67.5 to \u20ac 78.5)<\/p>\n

3X Shakespeare<\/strong>: needs no presentation. The everlasting echo of a great poet<\/a>, plus the talent of three contemporary top directors, each with his own perspective. (price: \u20ac 54 to \u20ac 70)<\/p>\n

Besides the performing arts, visual arts such as photography and film, literature and architecture are also part of this amazing event.<\/p>\n

The performances of Holland Festival mainly take place in large musical buildings in Amsterdam, such as the Muziekgebouw on the River IJ, the Bimhuis, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, the Westergasfabriek and the Royal Theatre Carr\u00e9.<\/p>\n
