The Trieste Film Festival<\/strong> has acquired increasing importance both nationally and internationally, becoming a point of reference especially for film-making sector of Central and Eastern European countries. But it can also tell us something special about the city that hosts it, Trieste<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0and all of its region, Friuli Venezia Giulia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Some say an Italy travel may be incomplete without visiting Trieste, this charming city in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region<\/a><\/strong>, north eastern Italy. Sorry to say, but Trieste is often forgotten by tourists, since it\u2019s obscured by other famous, historical destinations in the country. However, also thanks to its geographic location at the intersection of many European cultures, Trieste is a city rich in history and very lively from a cultural point of view<\/strong>. The Trieste Film Festival is a clear example.<\/p>\n

At its 23rd edition this year, the Trieste Film Festival is the leading Italian event dedicated to central and Eastern European cinema. Many cinema festivals run every year in Italy, but this one surpasses them all, and encompasses them at the same time.<\/p>\n

The TFF programme ranges from the presentation of feature films, to shorts and documentary competitions, as well as retrospectives, prize awardings, themed evenings, concerts and performances: in short, this festival is renowned as an unmissable event and a showcase of the best cinematographers of \u201cnew<\/strong> Europe.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Trieste Film Festival couldn’t happen without the support of the Association Alpe Adria Cinema -founded in 1990 with the precise aim of promoting and expanding all initiatives in the field of cinema, experimentation and video, acting with an eye on the cultural growth of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the countries on the Mediterranean. The Association organizes the festival since the first edition, 1989, and has always stood out for the originality of its initiatives.<\/p>\n

Beside the official programme, since 2010 the TFF also hosts a co-production forum named \u201cWhen East Meets West<\/strong>\u201d, which involves more than 120 professionals in the audiovisual sector coming from all over Europe. It consists in three days devoted to the topic of cooperation between Eastern European countries, Italy and one other Western European country or area, which for the 2012 edition will be Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

Moreover, one of the most significant sections of the festival \u2013 one which may help understanding Trieste and all of its region and learn about local customs and behaviors \u2013 is \u201cCinema Zone,\u201d a showcase of film productions made in the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, and of works made by filmmakers either born or resident in the Region. All the selected films will be competing for a prize provided by the Province of Trieste.<\/p>\n
