Amsterdam in one of the most beautiful \u201csmall cities\u201d in the world, partly due to the fact that its life and culture are characterized by the concept of tolerance and diversity. And while all seasons are great to visit Amsterdam, December is ideal, since the entire city sparkles like magic with colorful Christmas lights, adding the final touch with great celebrations on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n

The largest annual countdown will take place, this year, in front of the Rijksmuseum on Museumplein. However, everywhere in the city \u2013 from Dam Square to De Jordaan etc. \u2013 throngs of people from all over the world join in the festivities.<\/p>\n

On NYE, Party animals in Amsterdam first celebrate the party with friends or family retiring to private residences, cafes or bars. So, you too, could find a bar, settle down and enjoy the fun.<\/p>\n

Some fine restaurants?<\/strong> The French Restaurant d’Theeboom, the Keizersgracht, or the Michelin-starred Vinkeles (with fixed menus from 60\u20ac to 235\u20ac), to start with.<\/p>\n

If a bar is the place you would like to spend New Years Eve at<\/strong>, then you definitely need to head towards the Nieuwmarkt Area, close to Chinatown and the Red light district. It\u2019s actually a big square with nice bars all around, much sought after by the locals as well.<\/p>\n

Instead, if you\u2019d like to spend the night with people from all over the world,<\/strong> then Leidseplein and Rembrandplein <\/strong>are the places to recommend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This goes on until midnight, when the city literally erupts with light and sound, as fireworks are set off all over the city<\/strong> and people are shouting New Year\u2019s wishes.<\/p>\n

The major tourist areas, such as Leidseplein, Dam Square, Nieuwmarkt and Rembrandtplein are good spots to see the firework displays, but go early to get a good spot to view. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dam Square is set up with beer tents and live shows<\/strong>, and gets very crowded with rowdy tourists. If you want a quiet spot to see the fireworks, pick any bridge on the city\u2019s main canals and watch the sky \u2013 you\u2019ll see fireworks from all directions and hear the incredible sounds of a celebrating city.<\/p>\n

Finally, here\u2019s a short list of the main dancing places<\/strong> where New Year\u2019s expected to ring in with ultimate excitement and… creativity.<\/p>\n

The Paradiso<\/em> gets live bands, go-go girls, and great DJs. Evening starting at 22:00, entry ticket: 25 \u20ac; At the Apenkooi<\/em>, you can choose between 3 fashionable dancing floors, proposing any sort of music, from 22:00 to 06:00, entry ticket: 50 \u20ac; the Comedy Theater<\/em> proposes a Burlesque New Year\u2019s Eve costume party, entry: 40\u20ac on the door; the Bimhuis<\/em> is one of Amsterdam’s jazz hotspots \u2013 just imagine; the ever-popular Escape Club will feature some of the country\u2019s hottest club DJs; Felix Meritus<\/em> proposes a 1950s school prom for adults, where guys and girls enter separately and only meet once on the dance floor – a party where being single has its advantages!<\/p>\n
