{"id":1946,"date":"2011-06-01T08:45:42","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T07:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/?p=1946"},"modified":"2013-09-27T13:26:08","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T12:26:08","slug":"cadaques-the-most-beautiful-village-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.traveleurope.com\/en\/cadaques-the-most-beautiful-village-in-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Cadaqu\u00e9s &#8211; the most beautiful village in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In one of the busiest areas of <strong>Spain<\/strong>, the <strong>Costa Brava<\/strong>, Cadaqu\u00e9s is a city in the province of <strong>Girona<\/strong>, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and located within the magnificent <strong>Parque Natural de Cabo de Creus<\/strong>, also chosen as a holiday resort by the famous painter <strong>Salvador Dali<\/strong> &#8211; who described this place as &#8220;the most beautiful village in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <strong>Cadaqu\u00e9s<\/strong> is famous first of all for its amazing beaches: crystal clear waters lapping on secluded coves and a privileged status as natural harbor which allows the practice of many water sports such as diving, windsurfing or sailing.<br \/>\nRight in the centre of Cadaqu\u00e9s, you will enjoy <strong>Platja d\u2019Espianc<\/strong>, one of the most popular beaches, although the record is held by <strong>Platja d\u2019Es Portal,<\/strong> which is right in the centre of the Bay and always hardly crowded. If you want something more intimate and&#8230; wild, you have to get up to <strong>Platja d\u2019en Pere Fet<\/strong>, an almost virgin inlet where you can also spend a whole day without meeting a soul! And finally, how not to mention <strong>Platja de s&#8217;Arenella<\/strong>, the beach named after the characteristic islet that is located just in front of it.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to beautiful beaches, Cadaqu\u00e9s also boasts a picturesque old town consisting of a vast and intricate network of narrow streets that climb and crisscross up to the imposing <strong>church of Santa Maria<\/strong>, with its beautiful white facade and a well-restored baroque altarpiece inside.<\/p>\n<p>The town is also home to important modernist buildings &#8211; like<strong> Casa Serinyena<\/strong>, as well as several art galleries and museums &#8211; the most important of which are undoubtedly the <strong>Salvador Dali House-Museum<\/strong>, situated in <strong>Portlligat<\/strong> bay, north of Cadaqu\u00e9s, the <strong>Museo Municipal de Arte<\/strong> and the <strong>Museo Perrot-Moore<\/strong>, with works by <strong>Picasso<\/strong>, <strong>Klein<\/strong> and <strong>Chagall<\/strong>, other artists who have formed a strong bond of affection with this little-known corner of paradise.<\/p>\n<p>Although the bustle and activity during high season, Cadaqu\u00e9s is still a place where there are no nightclubs, but only a number of restrained bars and restaurants where to spend lazy evenings.<\/p>\n<p>The white houses and narrow alleys, the overturned fishing boats on small beaches, the warm lighted bay glowing at sunset, the liveliness of the streets at night, the clatter of dishes outside the restaurants.
