Pinkpop Festival, or Pinkpop for short, is a rock festival held annually on the Pentecost weekend at Landgraaf, Netherlands. According to the Guinness Book of Records, since 1990 this is the oldest annual festival in the world. This year’s edition, the 43rd, will run from May 26th to 28th.

With around 300 000 visitors every year, the Alpenzoo – high over the roofs of Innsbruck – is the largest cultural institution in the country of Tyrol. As the name (and location) suggests, this zoo specialises in Alpine creatures, and is a great place to see some of the rarest creatures in Europe, including bears and wolves. Speaking of Dresden, the one thing that comes up again and again is the reminiscence of a city flattened by Allied bombers and ended up behind the Iron Curtain. 77 years have passed since Dresden’s historic Altstadt was razed to the ground by a shower of bombs during World War II: hope, goodwill… and time, have helped the city to rise from the rubble, and reclaim its status as ‘Florence on the Elbe’. A mix of old and new that makes for an ideal short trip.
